Show Notes - 01/17/2010

In the past week, the island nation of Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. According to the International Red Cross, the death toll can be as high as a half million people; fathers, mothers, brother, sisters. Sunday morning a less devastating but nearly equal 6.3 magnitude earthquake trembles 220 miles offshore of Argentina in the Southern Atlantic Ocean.

What are we to make of this? Is the earth speaking to us? Are we ready for this type of disaster to hit in our very own backyard? Engineer/Author Matthew Stein joined us on the program to help us figure out if we are in fact prepared for disaster. Mat wrote the manual for self-reliance, WHEN TECHNOLOGY FAILS. He will go over some crucial points and help us take a look at surviving disaster including his "72 Hour Grab & Run" kit.

To help the Haitians, you can donate through the American Red Cross and this is the organization above all that The Behind The Mike Show, WBTM Radio Network and Reality 1 Radio recommend. You can text the word "Haiti" to the number 90999 to make a $10 donation (reflected on your phone bill) or make a donation through the American Red Cross' website at http://www.RedCross.org
