Tonight on the show we started out with Singer & Songwriter Stephen Luke. The interesting twist is that Stephen plays guitar too and well. Listen is as he explains the situation of getting back to playing from an accident that left him wondering if would play guitar again plus we feature a few of his tracks. Check out his website below.

Later, another visit by our resident career coach, Kay Stout completed this awesome show. Kay spoke about breaking the glass ceiling in two ways; at home and at work. She also stressed how important it is to stay focused when looking for work and simply don't just wait for someone to call you after you apply. The key is to put yourself out there so employers know who you are and that you are looking. Use of LinkedIn, as always,is a great tool for that. Kay dropped some links off and they are below.

On the BIG show tonight we talked a few minutes about the Philadelphia Eagles decision to release Running Back Brian Westbrook. Westbrook suffered two concussions last season. After the fact that Philadelphia spent $18 Million last seaon while the Andrews brothers sat out injured, it makes perfect sense that they do not want to enter the same trap with Westbrook. Unfortunately, he is damaged goods and it is in the opinion of this host that Brian should think about himself, his health and his family and leave the game. he could do very well with a network job as an analyst. Wherever he goes, we wish him the very best!

We also asked her about her other work which is writing mysteries and also scripts for downloadable mystery parties that you can hold on your own with friends…it’s PartyTime! Visit her links below.

Show Notes 02/21/2010

On a fantastic episode we spoke first with WSET-TV’s Chief Meteorologist Sean Sublette, who gave us an insight on this crazy winter weather. He explained that it is a combination of the el Nino Season and the North Atlantic Oscillation. He also explained that although the system is winding down, we may still be dealing with the effects of the two systems perhaps through mid-March.

Then we welcomed back to the program, Matthew Stein, author of the book When Technology Fails: A Manual for Self-Reliance, Sustainability and Surviving the Long Emergency. Last month, Matthew helped us get focused on preparing a 72 Hour “Grab-and-Run” Survival Kits. This time around, we continued where we left off including topics like food, food rotation, water treatment, first aid and firearms.

In the case of emergency heat, it is suggested that you try and have a small generator on hand and do the following:

  • Disconnect your panel from the grid by shutting off the main.
  • Turn off any two-tied breakers as that represents heavier appliances that a small generator will not run.
  • Build a heavy duty 110 Volt Male to Male cord to connect the generator to one outlet in your home

This will be enough to power lights, refrigerator, computers, TV, gas furnace, etc. If not you may blow the circuit breaker on the generator, but you can turn off a few unnecessary things and fire it up again. If you are desperate for heat, you can use kerosene heaters, charcoal grills or propane heaters BUT open windows for cross ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. In fact, every home should be equip with a carbon monoxide detector(s).

Considerations for an Emergency Preparedness Checklist:

  • 72 Hour “Grab-and-Run” Survival Kit
  • Plan on a central meeting place
  • Be sure all family members know where to cut power, gas and water to the house
  • Spare keys for vehicle on vehicle and in a remote location
  • Month or more of food and water (or water purification)
  • Survival Manual
  • First Aid Kit
  • First Aid Manual
  • Knowledge of First Aid & CPR
  • Out of state emergency contact information
  • Emergency paperwork

You can purchase a copy of the book by clicking the Amazon Link below. You can also win a signed copy from the author by answering our trivia question this week:

Show Notes - 02/16/2010

Tonight on the show, we spoke about the potential NFL Lock-Out of 2011 and looked at the potential issues that it would cause if there were a work stoppage. That would benefit no one and like the stoppage of 1987, it would do no good at all for either side. It's all about the money.

We then spoke to Canadian Born and Virginia bred singer/songwriter/producer David Homyk. This is a story that you must hear. Dave is a fantastic singer and very talented. We showcased one of his singles on the show that single-handedly showed off his talent. He has also produced work for Beyonce, Solange Knowles, Cheri Dennis and more. Listen to more of David's music by visiting his webpage link below.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!

Can We Travel Through Time?

In November of 2000, a man calling himself Timetravel_0 showed up on discussion forums and claiming to be a time traveler from the year 2036. His real name he later revealed was John Titor. In his posts and discussions, he made numerous predictions; some of which were vague and others very specific in nature. In March of 2001, he was gone. So was he telling the truth? Was John Titor a traveler from another timeline? Or was he just a very intelligent person in out own timeline who wanted to send us a message of how we can change our lives for the better?

Tonight we explored the John Titor phenomenon with Scott Norwood; director of the Independent film Timetravel_0. The movie is a very well made investigation into the chase of who John Titor was. It is complete with interviews from the man on the street to some physicists and scientists who spoke about the possibilities (or not) of being able to travel through time. Scott walked with us through time to review some of what John said and some of the messages he left us with.

We learned that Scott has many of the same views as the Behind The Mike family in that we cannot be 100% sure that John Titor actually came from the future but we do have in common that he was, for better or worse, delivering a message to all peoples that we needed to change our lives and our time.

It is for us to decide whether we want to believe or not. In the words of John Titor, "If you do not believe in Time travel then I suggest for discussion that you CHOOSE not to believe. Do you believe in ET's or UFO's − choices. Do you believe that the rest of the world or the known universe exists − choices. Do you believe you were born of sin − choices. You choose not to believe − this is not the same as the ability for it to exist".

Seeing in not believing -- Believing is seeing.

Welcome Back Tuesday's Behind The Mike!!

On our return to Tuesday nights, we spoke about the Super Bowl outcome and some of the stats that made it great. One of which was the fact that there were not many penalties which is odd. The Saints took a victory back to the city of New Orleans. Next week we will take a closer look at the potential NFL 2011 Lock-Out.

Later, we talked about the horrendous winter weather that the mid-Eastern states are experiencing. Large amounts of crystallized H2O, heavy winds, thundersnow and more are wreaking havoc and in fact, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Wilmington will break all-time records in total snowfall amounts.
