On the program tonight we spoke with Dr. Jane Orient MD. Dr. Orient is the Executive Director on the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, Inc. (AAPS). The organization is heavily involved in many actions and movements that are directly adverse to the so-called Health Care Reform and they will be involved with the events being held on both coasts and in between on August 7.

Dr. Orient gave us some serious facts about why the doctors are as worried about this reform. She stated that this is nothing more than the government's way to gain control over us. This is true and we have been seeing this for some time. Here is a list of the main concerns of the doctors:

  • Subject physicians to the greater control of insurance company oversight
  • Deter innovation by physicians because insurance companies won't allow it
  • Impoverish patients by forcing them to pay for expensive insurance they may not use
  • Enrich insurance companies at the expense of patients and physicians
  • Eliminate the growing market of self-paying patients
  • Bankrupt government programs and potentially lead to a government takeover
  • Cause many physicians to stop practicing, leading to shortages and long waiting lines

Just another reason why we MUST take the trash out on November 2, 2010!

Show Notes - 07/25/2010

On the program tonight, Mr. Brock LaRobb! Brock has been through our hallways and radio waves several times now and always..always a treat. Brock helped us get down to some nitty gritty topics on the show. Some of the items we spoke about are listed here, but there was oh, so much more:

A Mosque Grows in Manhattan? WTF is with this. How can this be? How did some elected board of officials approve this blasphemy? We are going to allow an Islamic Mosque & Recreation Center to be erected at the site of the World Trade Center? Public opinion is absolutely necessary to stop this atrocity against America. British video blogger, Pat Condell says it right for all of us:

We wonder why this type of outcry has not come from every method of media in the country....

Is it the Government or a Criminal Syndicate? You know, we have this little piece of paper called the U.S. Constitution which includes the Bill of Rights. Well, for some reason..and this has been coming a little at a time for some time..but the government does not follow it. They do not obey it (the law of the land). They are, in essence, breaking the law. If we broke the law, we'd be in jail..plain and simple! Why are they not in jail? It is unlawful to tax us. It is unlawful to force their insurance on us. It is unlawful to spy on us. The government is cracking down on our freedoms of speech. They have closed down bloggers' websites and they are now closing in on targeting talk radio shows. So watch out, big brother is looking to hit you up!

Mid-term elections are coming up in November 2010 and we have to pull together and think with open minds to stop the wrong people from being in office. As we stated before, the right people in the right offices at the right time. Take the garbage out on November 2!

Show Notes - 07/20/2010

Mel Gibson was our first topic of discussion on the show and why not? The foul-mouthed actor, who has not starred in a movie since Signs (2002) has been taped having a vulgar tirade of conversation with his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. We certainly are not counting on seeing much of Mel anytime soon, if ever, after this and the fact that not so long ago, he had his moment of anti-semitic remarks in 2006. Way to go Mel. Where's Danny Glover when you need him?

Next up, the Wake County (NC) School Board in an attempt to re-arrange transportation of students and stop the diversity policy were disrupted when a crowd of protesters gathered and began shouting about the school board trying to re-segregate minorities. Please! Can we stop all of this racial bull? Every time a minority interprets anything the way that they see fit, it gives them some godforsaken right to play the race card. It's not always because you are African-American so GET OVER YOURSELVES!

We also covered the news blast of NC Representative, Joe Hackney (D-NC). Joe is in his FIFTEENTH term (can you spell T E R M L I M I T S) and the NC Speaker of the House and he banned the word "Jesus" from the House. When Pastor Ron Baity came to serve his week as the leader of morning prayer, he was told to eliminate Jesus from his prayer. SERIOUSLY, Joe?!? Who should we pray to? YOU? Be sure and write Joe or call him and tell him what you think of his recent actions:

Joe Hackney
NC House of Representatives

16 W. Jones Street, Room 2304

Raleigh, NC 27601-1096

(919) 733-3451

Finally, the Census Bureau in New York was caught falsifying census records. Instead of going door-door to gather information that was not submitted, they were instructed to falsify it or look it up on the internet and make assumptions. Now being that the US Congress members are selected based on the amount of constituents in each state then could this be seen as a way to increase the size of the government by seizing extra seats in Congress...just sayin'!

Show Notes - 07/18/2010

We tackled some key issues tonight in the first hour of the broadcast including the finding of a 30 foot 18th century ship hull and 100 pound anchor at approximately 30 feet below street level at the World Trade Center site. Archeologists working at the site said that the site is probably a purposely created landfill site for the purpose of extending the Hudson River shoreline to build up Manhattan. Therefore the ship may have been placed there for that extension project. It would be interesting to see what else they may find that was used for the landfill so many years ago.

Now speaking of the World Trade Center site, we also spoke of a very hot-topic issue and that is the recent approval of the erection of a 13 story Islamic mosque and community center just yards away from Ground Zero. How in the world does an American assembly of officials approve an Islamic mosque at the site where AMERICANS died at the hands of Islamic Jihadists?! Can someone explain that you us because we are having a great hard time figuring this out. How dare they have the audacity to even think that this sacred ground can be poisoned with their place of worship. We will definitely be covering this and have some audio next Sunday here on Behind The Mike.

BP and the Feds are arguing again over the fact that the cap which was just placed on the oil gusher may have to be taken off due to an influx of pressure and gases. Now, again, we find ourselves asking the same question; why does no one at BP think of these problems before they do something? I mean, c'mon, is the Federal government running BP? Who do these jackwagons think they are? So this seems to tell us that the problems with the Gulf crisis may not yet be finished.

Later on the program was our monthly installment of Ideas For A Challenging Economy with Kay Stout. Kay is our resident career expert and adviser and she came along to speak about some trends in the employment part of our society. Kay happily related to us that there is some strength showing in that more people are leaving their current employ for a better opportunity and that shows a level of growth.

Kay and Tony chatted about some resume ideas on how to write an effective resume including using keywords and action verbs throughout to gain you better results. Kay offers many services including resume review and you can contact her with more information.

We also discussed outsourcing and how it has affected our society. Kay took two approaches on that including a good example and a bad example. To explain, she mentioned how a service company sending their call center work off-shore is a short term disaster for customer retention and profits. Then she pointed out that a company that outsources it's manufacturing to say, China or Vietnam can use these savings to point money and resources into research and thus creating new domestic jobs. Joel introduced the idea of insourcing whereas people can utilize this practice to do a home-based start up and take on some of the call center or data entry work that gets shipped offshore thus creating stimulus in the job market and therefore the economy.

Celebrating LIVE AID: 25 Years - July 13, 1985 Wembley Stadium, London ◄►JFK Stadium, Philadelphia

25 years ago, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure had an idea to bring musicians together for a musical benefit raining money for the hungry. It turned out to be the largest satellite link up broadcast ever. 171,000 attended live between Wembley (72,000) and JFK (99,000) and an estimated 2 billion televisions were tuned in.

We spoke about the event tonight on the show. Joel discussed where he was and what he was doing that day and also the fact that he was taping it on VHS and made his big sister stay home from a date while he went to work to make sure she changed the tapes. That day became a generation's "where were you when" moment in history.

We were hoping for some phone calls from listeners telling us what they were doing that day and to reveal their memories. Luckily we had a great response on the Facebook page and some of the stories there were great. One woman who attended got herself a Live Aid flag and has it matted and framed. Good for her, wish I had one.

Mention MUST be given to a website that is on the world wide web that pays great homage to the Live Aid experience. The name of the web site is The Definitive Live Aid Site and it is packed with great information. The most intriguing part of the site is the dedication to time lines of every artist and song that was aired. His site is worthy of a look and you should. We did try to have him on the show but being in France we were not able to negotiate the times with such short notice.

Later in the show we spoke to Tony Peters who is the host of the radio show on Blog Talk Radio, Icon Fetch. Tony seems to have had a day similar to Joel's in getting up early for Live Aid and taking every minute in that he could. Tony mentioned Phil Collins, how great it was that he played the concert at both venues on the same day..something no performer has done again to this day. How U2 was a small time band until they appeared on Live Aid thus launching their worldwide career.

Show Notes - 07/11/2010

Tonight on the show we started off by discussing a news story regarding President Obama's concerns that the Democrats may lose control in the House with this Fall's upcoming mid-term elections. Boo-Hoo! Perhaps we need a serious change and maybe that means some seats that are up for re-election should be filled by Americans for Americans. What's your opinion?

Next, we spoke with Amy Norris and Craig Bishop who work on the web site, The Ultimate Grease 2 Fan Site. Boy, what a site. There is some serious dedication going on there and we just had to get them on the show and talk about the site and how into Grease 2 they are. Well, we found out that Joel is as crazy into it as they are...OK, they are really into it. We talked about the site's start, it's several incarnations (all of them for good reason) and the content involved. Amy said the site is about 75 pages strong and she had plenty more stuff not yet archived.

Craig talked about his involvement including the success story of him putting together a reunion of cast members at a 35MM screening of Grease 2. He was able to secure Christopher McDonald (Goose), Lorna Luft (Paulette Rebchuck), Leif Green (Davey Jaworski) and more. Craig said that Christopher was a great person and listen to the show archive to hear the story but it sounds like he is 100% approachable.

Amy reports that at this year's Outfest, Grease 2 was selected as the festival's Sing-A-Long movie at the ampitheater so it will again hit the big screen. Visit the link below for more information regarding Outfest.

Finally to wrap up a great show, we interviewed Singer/Songwriter Nick Driver and featured music from his CD release, Warm is Your Color. Nick has a great soothing sound and he could sooth the soul after a rough day (we know, we completed that experiment in the Behind The Mike labs). We featured Young & Beautiful and Gardens and received some great comments about his voice. We agree with all of them. Check out his link below and definitely get his CD.

TECH TUESDAY

Tonight on the show, Host Joel Michalec turned into a tech support facilitator with the help of Tony Richards and covered some tech issues and offered free advice to any callers.

First up - what to look at when your computer is running slow. Look at the following items:

  • Bad/Corrupt OS
  • Viruses, Trojans, Spyware
  • Overheating PC/Clean Case
  • Short on Hard Disk Space
  • Registry Requires Optimizing
  • Hard Drive Fragmented (run MS Defrag)

If you do not have an Anti-Virus program installed please get one. Here are two good choices and you can even run both of these to double your protection:

AVG Free - http://free.avg.com/
MS Security Essentials - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Next we discussed Facebook security, or more aptly social media security and the fact that you have to be sure that you:

  • Know your friends
  • Tighten your privacy settings

Every time that Facebook updates their software which rounds out to a couple times per year, it sling shots your privacy settings back to default, which is bad. So you have to regularly check the settings and see if they are the way that you want them. Also, keep in mind that the apps on Facebook (like Mafia Wars, Farmville, etc.) are third party apps that, when used, are given your permission to collect and use your personal information. So please be careful when you decide to play these apps...even the TRIVIA!

In chat we were asked about our opinion on a PHP Editor. We sent the following link along to help them make a decision:

Show Notes - 07/04/2010

Greetings to everyone on this Sunday, the 4th of July!

Joel and the rest of the gang have the day off so the pretty show notes you usually see here are may be not as pretty today.  As this is a holiday weekend, many of you may be listening to the show later and as always, there is plenty of opportunity to do that.  The show will be available here on this blog and I will also try and see if Joel can release it as a podcast as well in the future.

Michael Schwartz paid us another visit and we explored more on the symbolism of diseases and how to naturally work on the body's ailments. We spoke about pain, clotting, healthy eating and Michael's current radio series on cancer. Michael will be appearing on a book tour in selected cities to promote the book Symbology of Disease and you can find out more by visiting his links.

Later, we discussed the lag in health care in the United States and also spoke about, in conjunction with Micheal's visit, how paying attention to the body and diet and perhaps we would not need so much medical attention.

We also featured some holiday music on the show this week.  My thanks goes to the folks at Airplay Direct for providing these fine artists.  Specifically, the artists we featured on the show were Ray Stevens who opened the show with the Pledge of Allegiance (and you thought he could only be married to Ethel in The Streak didn't ya?) and Lee Greenwood with his version of God Bless the USA.  We also featured a tribute to the fallen heroes and a remembrance to  those who lost their lives tragically in the World Trade Center Attack on 9/11.

Remember people....... It is because of the people who fight and die in our military units around the world that help to keep this country separate from all of the others out there.    It is......

The Home of the Free .... Because of the Brave.....

Have a safe holiday weekend!

Tony
