Reviewing The U.S. Constitution
Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Tonight we began with a conversation with our very good friend, Sean Sublette. Sean is the Chief Meteorologist for WSET-TV in Lynchburg, Virginia (ABC Affiliate). Sean talked about the weather outlook for the Eastern Seaboard this week with Hurricane Earl on the prowl. Specifically we found out why we will still have sunny weather all week with a hurricane within 200 miles of shore and Sean gave us one heck of an education on the behavior of hurricanes. Also, he shared his thoughts on the Farmer's Almanac and their prediction for this winter. Tune into the archives to hear a great conversation with Sean.

Next was a small discussion on work attitudes. With the current state of the economy and slim chance for relief anytime soon, we observed that there are plenty of people out there with very nasty attitudes and that really looks bad on the company they work for and reflects negatively on the patrons of the business. Are you so independently wealthy that you do not need the job? We say that if you are so unhappy then please quit and give an American with a strong will to work an opportunity.

Finally, a look at a rumor heard at the Delaware Candidates "Meet & Greet" in Newark, Delaware about a 1% tax on ALL bank transactions being passed into effect right after the mid-term elections. We here at Behind The Mike felt it necessary to do some follow up investigative work and found that it is a twist on the truth. There is a Congressional House Bill that was introduced by Congressional Representative Chaka Fattah (PA-2) on 2/23/2010. The bill (H.R.4646) according to Fattah would "establish a fee on transactions which would eliminate the national debt and replace the income tax on individuals." Looking at it this way and studying the bill, one can see that it could be a good idea if done right by the principle. There are some gray areas obviously but remember this: first, it probably will not see the light of day because it is a pretty good idea and second it is only a proposed bill. So please be wary of emails talking about this as a bomb being dropped on taxpayers.

USS OBAMA
America's Newest Destroyer!

Brock LaRobb joined us on tonight's program and it is always a treat to the ears when he comes by. Nearly no subject was safe during the conversation. First up was Brock's recent trip to New York City where he had the opportunity to talk to some people, namely street vendors, and there is an economical mainstay regarding pricing and Brock almost at every instance was able to negotiate his price for goods and services down nearly better than a stop off at priceline.com. Otherwise, he says that the best way to get around is by way of the petty cabs; he states they are very unique.

The point of Roger Clemmens surfaced regarding steroid use. The argument was not settled tonight as there seems to be a paradigm shift in the thinking of society on this issue. Would as many people who think it is OK today thought the same two decades ago? One decade ago?

Other random stories included health care, Barack Obama, Iran, Iraq, Israel's recent request for $2 Billion in fuel from the United States, Fidel Castro and much more.

When you are traveling to work in the morning or driving home at night and you might be stuck in a little traffic, please think of the poor folks on the National Highway 110 in Beijing, China. The motorists there have been stuck in a 62 mile backup for the past 11 days. Now that is what you call "late for dinner".

Our guest tonight was Libertarian Candidate for the Delaware 32nd District, Will McVay. Will is also the Kent County, DE Libertarian Party Chair. We spoke to Will regarding some problems that occurred in Delaware regarding fusion candidacy; an arrangement where two or more political parties support a common candidate, pooling the votes for all those parties. By offering to endorse or nominate a major party's candidate, minor parties can influence the candidate's platform. As we reported on the show, Brent Wangen and Will McVay were cordially uninvited off of the Delaware primary ballot as fusion candidates. Will blogs about the details on his website.

We also spoke about Will's issues that he would like to work on if elected and of course the health care issue had come up along with a primary purpose of working towards state sovereignty here in Delaware. We asked him his thoughts as to whether Delaware could sustain it's own economy without so much federal influence and he stated that we could easily do so. Listen to the archive to learn more about Will, his issues and the Libertarian view of government.

We had a jam-packed show for you tonight. We started the evening out with a discussion on the Middle East due to no less than six different headlines that hit our desk concerning the Iranians opening their nuclear power plant. Basically they "say" it is for peaceful civilian electricity and Israel says that they are lying. We hash into some facts about the management and oversight being provided by Russia and leave some opinions to YOU, the listener. Unless we have hard evidence that Iran has other intentions for wanting nuclear power, then who are we or anyone else in the world to tell them they cannot have what we have? What do you think?

Next up, we had the pleasure of interviewing a fascinating musician. Dairenn Lombard. Dairenn is the lead vocalist and keyboardist for the pop band, Starfire. Dairenn has a great back-story relating to his musical roots (New Orleans, LA) and his inspirations for his music. We were glad to feature a song from the debut CD, EYE OF THE STORM. The throwback sound of the Eighties of the track, THINKING ABOUT YOU was stunning and also refreshing to hear a band pay homage to the Awesome Decade! We have an open invitation to talk with Dairenn again when he releases his next CD. You can check him out at all of his links listed below.

In the final hour of Behind The Mike, we went Beyond The Game! We covered some top sports stories including Roger Clemmens and whether or not he should be allowed to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame at a later date. Sure, he put up qualifying numbers however with the fact that he took steroids and will probably see jail time for perjuring himself to Congress perhaps we should reconsider. What do you think? Bret Favre retired...a couple of times...and here he is back again after some teammates went to visit him, bought him lunch and whatever and now he is joining the team (Minnesota Vikings). Bret, RETIRE already. We rambled about some other NFL quarterbacks and also the Philadelphia Phillies offense troubles.

THE CONSTITUTION IS THE SOLUTION

Tonight on the show, we spoke one on one with Delaware Congressional Candidate Brent Wangen. Brent is a member of the Libertarian Party.

The Libertarian Party was founded in 1971 and is the third largest political party in the United States and growing. It was formed by persons who believed that the government had strayed far from the founding fathers' visions for the country.

Brent makes one hell of a case for his candidacy based on the very core values of the Libertarians: Limited Government and freedoms and liberties to Americans. Brent spoke about what his list of issues would be included on his Washington Agenda:

1. Read the Bill Act (RTBA) – This bill would require all congressional members to sign an affidavit attesting that they have read or listened attentively to the bill being read.

2. One Subject at a Time Act (OSTA) – This bill would restrict any additions to any bill to be germane to the subject of the original bill.

3. Write the Law Act (WTLA) - This bill would end unconstitutional delegation of legislative powers by congress and work toward phasing out unconstitutional departments, and start restoring the separation of powers.

4. Enumerated Powers Act (EPA) - This bill would require any and all new bills to define which of the enumerated powers in the Constitution gives congress the power to enact such legislation.

5. Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) – This bill would tie congressional pay to the budget. If congress goes over budget they take a 5% drop in pay until they have a balanced budget. This 5% would compound every year they go over budget

6. Congressional Pension Removal (CPR) – This bill would remove congress from the Federal Pension system. As politics is not a career path but public service, pensions are not appropriate for these positions. Pension would be replaced with a 401K savings plan with matched assets up to 5% of pay. This would allow congressmen/women to take their retirement savings with them to their next position more in line with the rest of working Americans.

We also spoke briefly about the health care bill, which Brent calls in a word, "unconstitutional". We agree. Brent also stresses that the problem never was health care insurance, but health care costs; and what the federal government seeks to do has nothing to do with controlling the costs to us. Listen to the archives to hear what Brent had to say.

Welcome to the BIG SHOW!!

On the program tonight we revealed the winner of our HARD Trivia Contest. Zack from Ohio wins Nick Driver's CD, "Warm is Your Color". The question and answer was:

Q: You will most likely use one of these during the week more so than you would on the weekend. What is it?

A: A computer

We received "Listener Email" from Anonymous. Please let us know who you are and do not be shy. Send your emails to us at Studio @ BehindTheMike.info. Anonymous wrote in about the people he/she encounters who do not use their turn signals properly when driving. Gather this problem along with cell phones when driving and pure idiocy while driving and we have a whole list of opportunities to work on to make everyone safer.

We also spoke about the problem with [public] schools and how the system is not working the way that it once did. We are of the opinion that the reason is that students complain to mom and dad that the teachers are mean, give too much homework, etc. Then the mommies and daddies complain to the system that the the kids are worked too hard. Then the students do not learn a damned thing so mommy and daddy want to know why. Do you see a problem here?

Ideas For A Challenging Economy

Kay Stout joined us for our monthly special segment regarding careers and advice. One of the points that she stressed on this evening was the Hewlett-Packard/Jodie Fisher story whereas Jodie had sued HP for sexual harassment and then afterward when the party in question stepped down from HP she apologized. Kay's statement to this was that in this market and economy, you should think twice about your situation should you feel there is a workforce situation. If Jodie Fisher apologized for causing so much pain, then was the sexual harassment really as bad as she thought? Was her interpretation of the facts skewed? Because of this entire mess, she has now labeled herself as litigious and will probably damage her chances of getting hired in the future when the settlement runs out.

We, of course are not stating that she perjured herself, we are simply saying that our opinion of the situation clearly changed direction when she publicly apologized.

We also continued some conversation about schooling and some of the alternatives to public schools, including private, charter and of course, homeschooling. Join Kay Stout each and every month on Behind The Mike on the third Sunday for more Ideas For A Challenging Economy. Contact her below.

Tonight on the program, we spoke about a story that released out of Philadelphia today about a woman who either did or crank called that she did throw her three children off of the Ben Franklin Bridge into the Delaware River. What is wrong with people these days? Whether it is for real or was a prank does not matter, she is guilty of being an idiot!

Later we featured a sibling duo, Michael & Marisa. Michael & Marisa are musicians and they are 12 and 13 respectively. They wrote a song called "The Same" which deals with the very serious social issue of bullying. Not only are the lyrics powerful and deliver a great message, but the song is very catchy and the melody is fantastic. The song can be purchased on their website and 20% of the sale proceeds will benefit Kids Against Bullying. We are hoping to have this sibling duo back for another run on the show and we will feature some music from their first album. Catch this episode and you will be purchasing a copy of the song for inclusion on your iPod.

First up on tonight's broadcast, we spoke with Laura Hartman & June Diguiso who are co-founders of the World Music and Independent Music Festival. Tom Townsend from "Leaving Hollywood" also joined us on the show. The WMIFF, as per their website states, "We are a festival about uniting and helping to promote all submissions. We feel that all artists have amazing stories and messages to share with the world. We want to help push those stories and messages, even after the festival is all said and done".

The festival, starting August 16th will feature 16 films including videos, documentaries and full feature films and will be held in the nation's capital, Washington DC. The Red carpet event will be held on August 21, 2010 at the Capital Hilton. Please visit their website below to secure your tickets for this event. As Tom Townsend stated, come on down to DC and let them show you that there is some class talent involved. He also mentioned that "Leaving Hollywood" is up for 7 nominations at the festival.

Later on the broadcast, the panel had a grudge match regarding the very serious issue of the Health care Reform Bill. This seems to be a subject that is on the proverbial hot stove and finds it's way into almost every episode we have. Of course we continue to make the point that we have to get out in November and make some serious changes. One caller put it correctly that the public have to realize that we are the owners of the government and that is a major problem that constituents believe the government is our bosses..it's the other way around. Our tax money pays them and in my humble opinion, that makes ME their boss!

TAKE THE TRASH OUT ON NOVEMBER 2

Dennis Wolfe returned to the show tonight to discuss with us the Real Hidden Agenda Behind The Health Care Reform Bill. This is some very frightening stuff and everyone needs to be aware of what the reform bill is hiding. Dennis is the author of the book, "The Sick Solution. A Prescription for National Health".

Dennis spoke about the fact that the reform bill is all about one thing and that is to take full control of everyone's medical needs and completely annihilate the middle class of America. It's about control. What is it that is so important to the government that they require full control of our lives? Can anyone answer this? There really were not many bright spots in the conversation, and this was expected. But to think that the government will be in full control of your medical including...including deeming whether it is even necessary for you to receive health care. How can we as Americans allow this government this control? We need to fight! We need to get the current band of criminals out of office in November so that we can get this reform REPEALED! November 2 is the "People's War"!

Show Notes - 08/01/2010

On the big show tonight we covered a myriad of topics including:

Remember the 21 year old Philadelphia Phillies fan who intentionally vomited on another fan and his two children at Citizen's Bank Park? Well, PUKIE-MON, better known as Matthew Clemmens, has been sentenced to 30-90 days in prison + 50 hours of community service + 2 years probation. In fact, his 50 hours of community service have to be cleaning urinals at the ballpark. I say justice was served. However, he should have been required to work every home game of the Eagles at the Linc walking the concourses dressed head to toe in Dallas Cowboys garb screaming that he is a devout Cowboys fan.

Also out of Philadelphia, 27 year veteran of the police department Kenneth Crockett was arrested and charged for his involvement in the theft of $825 from a Northeast Philadelphia Tavern. Really? You stole $825? Even more importantly than that is the fact that this man..this POLICE OFFICER swore testimony to uphold the law and to serve and protect. So he did the exact opposite of this. Oh, wait..perhaps that particular Tuesday was "Opposites Day" at the Philly PD. You never know. You're FIRED, Jackass! If you cannot serve your oath, get OUT!

Up on the soapbox, Joel argued that there is far too many unconcerned people who are still choosing to operate motor vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs or using cell phones. The problem is that any and all of these can seriously and do seriously inhibit your ability to properly function at the wheel and you do not give a damn that you may kill yourself or worse..someone else. You can kill yourself all you want if you have that much of an issue with this beautiful thing called LIFE. In the meantime, our families and friends are out there on the roads and if you cannot control your urge, then do us a favor and GET THE HELL OFF THE ROAD!

We did a new segment called DEAR VIDA where a listener email was read and she wished advice from Vida. The letter will not be reprinted here so you have to listen to the show to hear the letter and Vida's (and Joel's) advice that was given. Letters for DEAR VIDA should be emailed to Studio @ BehindTheMike.info.
Finally, The Obama administration is seeking to make it easier for the FBI to compel ISP companies to turn over records of an individual's Internet activity without a court order if agents deem the information relevant to a terrorism or intelligence investigation. Did you get that? Like the Patriot Act, here is another display of an UNCONSTITUTIONAL law being created to suit the government's needs to take control over us. This is another reason that we have to go out on November 2, 2010 and TAKE THE TRASH OUT! We have to stop this band of miscreants operating under the guise of the US Government from taking over every single solitary aspect of our lives. Who is with us?
