US National Debt
$14,216,288,139,108.33
or .. $45,815.84 for every man, woman and child in America

On the show we interviewed Robin Bowersox. Robin is working on spreading awareness for child abuse throughout her state of Maryland. Robin is also the eldest sister of Rita Fisher, the little girl abused to death in 1997 in Maryland. Robin has the right ideas as to what needs to be done to raise awareness and she also feels that in order for things to get better, the authorities must get out of their comas that keep them from addressing the real problems, there needs to be policy changes in how Child Protective Services and similar agencies conduct their affairs and she would like to see more charity for awareness. Please visit her Facebook Pages below to see how you can help. Also, April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, so please wear a dark blue ribbon.

Later on the program, we took a look at the latest developments in the Libyan crisis and the fact that we may have to get deeper entrenched into this rebellion. After all that, will anyone BESIDES the US have to foot the bill to rebuild another country that we had no reason going to war with.

Tonight's program was dedicated to Sound Off America where we challenged callers to chime in with what bothered them regarding any issues of the day. No calls but we covered the fund raising efforts for Japan, then we moved into the Middle East and the Libya craziness. Robert Gates appeared on "This Week" and stated that President Obama had no right to involve us in the Libya because Libya presented no imminent threat to the United States. Hmmm, that makes us wonder, right?

We established a fine panel on the second hour to discuss Donald Trump's speech at the CPAC where he obviously threw out a strong hint that he will run for President in 2012. Donald Trump as President of the United States? Interesting. Would he eliminate waste by eliminating unnecessary cabinets in the government? It could be a very interesting and very entertaining campaign to watch the Donald running for President.

Welcome to the BIG show. Tonight, our guest was The Juggling Comedian, Rick Novell. Joel had the absolute pleasure of seeing Rich performed on a Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship. Rick's show is breath-taking and can be billed as a comedic thriller. We talked to Rick about the stunts that he performs while juggling such as using a 6 foot, 10 rung ladder to walk about the stage while he juggles his wares including knives. Then he uses a 6 foot unicycle as well...all on a moving cruise ship. You can visit his website below and see video shorts from his show.

We also covered some updates on the Libya crisis including who the hell will be in charge of this mess, how does Obama get to go to war without Congressional consent and more. Plus will Japan's radiation crisis hurt us or help us? Well, it seems the answer lies with whomever you watch on the news. Join us every Tuesday and Sunday night on Behind The Mike for the latest in chatter...

U.S, British & French forces exercise air strikes against Libya!

Tonight the show began with some discussion on the recent air strikes against Gaddafi in the hopeful liberation of Libya from his control. So there was some different outlooks to this including why are we involving ourselves yet again into this conflict? Well because France was going and we are their ally. Well, this is something we will have to watch and see how it all pans out.

We spoke about the four day school week as it is being proposed in some areas of the country and actually happening in others. Who benefits from this? The school districts will have you believe that this move will save money from the school budgets but we will hurt the children's education more so than we are. The cost of school budgets are high because the GREED of the teachers' unions. They want and want and want but yet the United States have the worst academic scores as compared to the rest of the globe. Let's look at ways to make our children smarter so that the US can remain a great country. By the way, Mr & Mrs Teacher, we are having Hamburger Helper tonight...what are you eating?

Kay Stout and Matt Crevin got together on our monthly segment, Ideas For A Challenging Economy to discuss the NFL Lockout and what that might mean, not only to the players but the potential for job openings in the sports field as it pertains to auxiliary positions. Then Kay and Joel had some discussion about the unemployment rate which Kay stated was improving over the past six months.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Upon Joel's return from hiatus discussion pointed first to the devastation in Japan but what that did was to spark some debatable fodder on why we are OK with supporting everyone when there is a crisis but we never seem to focus on our own when there is a crisis here in the US such as the one called HUNGER or HOMELESSNESS and why is that? What we need to do is to hold some regular benefits for the American people who are in need right here in our very own country and need help. If you plan to give a donation to Japan, please consider a matching donation to an organization working directly with people living in poverty here in America:

Happy Sunday! Joel is safe and sound and ...well...tired. LOL Tonight;s show was hosted by the usual band of malcontents, Tony Richards and Jack Hosley from Wander Radio and wander we did. But then, that is indeed what makes this show.... The Radio Show About...Whatever. We zigzagged through various news stories and while we were probably zigging when we were supposed to be zagging, somehow it all worked and the show hosts survived.

On the show we talked about the tsunami strike in Japan and its impact on their economy and people plus the effects it has had elsewhere in the world. Speaking of effects on the world, we also discussed Charlie Sheen and the Two and a Half Men mess.

After that, Jack and I went into random mode fielding phone calls from everything about why working mothers are appreciative of having crock pots to how to do a brake job on a Dodge Neon.

Join us Tuesday night when Joel returns......

Happy Shrove (Fat) Tuesday from the Behind the Mike Show!

As we dove into the show tonight, Frank Cotolo and Tony Richards provided a veritable feast of topics on the table tonight. While March is not that far from Spring time, according to Frank, Joel Michalec sounded more like a cough medicine than a show host's name tonight. LOL

Fiction 20 Down - The deck where it all started

Up first on the show tonight, we welcomed the reggae band Fiction 20 Down to the show and speaking for the group was drummer Andre Toney. Andre told us that the band hails mostly from the Annapolis, Maryland area but has played up and down the east coast and will be playing this coming weekend , March 12th at The Sandbar in Middletown, Delaware. The show starts at 10 PM eastern time and there is a $5 cover to get in. We also featured one of their songs, "Play On" during the show as well. Find out more about The Sandbar or about Fiction 20 Down by clicking the links.

After the break, Frank and Tony talked about Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras Tony related a story about how for many years since the southern coast of Louisiana was below sea level especially the city of New Orleans, that each year until the flood gates were built around the cities, New Orleans would get wiped out by hurricanes and it would take a long time to rebuild so they used the French celebration of Mardi Gras as part of the celebration process of a city rebuilt. That, of course, in time to be demolished again the following summer as more hurricanes came. Frank focused more on the religious side of it, stating that it signified the start of the Lenten season of the Catholic church and the 40 days of fast and abstinence leading to the celebration of Easter.

We then touched briefly on President Obama's decision to keep Guantanamo Bay open as a detention facility and whether or not politicians ever really speak the truth or whether they speak the truth as they know it "at the time", only to find out when they say the "big picture" with details they were not privy to beforehand, how their actions change.

Finally, we talked about the one and only Charlie Sheen and what he is doing now. Besides setting records on gaining Twitter followers, first a record one million in just under 27 hours, and now over TWO million, the now former Two and a Half Men star, after being fired from his spot on the show by warner Brothers has started his own webcast on U Stream and, according to Frank, is not self-destructing at all, but is instead doing exactly what he should be doing.... using social media to keep himself in the public eye. Frank says he bets that if you would be lucky enough to ask Charlie off the record if this is planned, Charlie would probably admit that he had been found out. Stay tuned..... If it goes oriental, it may yet wind up being Two and a Half Yen.....

Hello yet again from the producer's desk.......boy this chair is getting old, I need a new one.
First up on the show tonight, we extended the trivia contest for another week because while the answers were good, they were not quite what we were looking for. Therefore, here is the question again:

Over 1 million of these are predicted to be sold this year alone, yet 62% of them will likely never be used. What are they? Hint.... think summer. If you want to try luck at winning a $50 Amazon gift certificate, email your answer to contest@wbtm.info by 11:59pm this Saturday, March 12th.
On with the show notes.........

Tonight on the show, we welcomed back Dennis Wolf, insurance specialist and author of a number of writings including a book called The Sick Solution - A Prescription for National Health. While he introduced that book over 20 years ago, some of the topics he brought to light and predicted have indeed come to pass. Tonight on the show, we discussed who pays for that medical bill and what happens when you do not have insurance. We also laid the groundwork for a future show where Dennis will return and explain where we go from here and just what will happen if Obamacare is repealed and what it will mean to you and me.

In the second hour, Frank Cotolo joined us as we did another round of tiptoeing , and sometimes steamrolling, right through some of the crazier news stories of the day. We talked about a mother in England who says 12 babies is not enough and wants more.....all at the cost of the local taxpayer because she has not held a job since he had child number 1. Her boyfriend cannot work and hasn't since 1999, but he can go off-road motorcycling even though the reason he cannot work is because he has a bad back. Huh?

A couple of teenagers get busted big time for creating one of the largest Internet crime web sites around, Gh0stmarket.Net. Three teenagers in the UK have been sentenced for up to five years in jail for creating and operating Gh0stMarket.net, one of the world’s largest English-language internet crime forums. The Gh0stMarket website, which had about 8,000 members, was dubbed by the court as the “criminal equivalent of Facebook”, or “Crimebook,” according to The Guardian:
In court, Tyrone Smith, defending, said the site was a “Crime book” where people could learn and socialize. To users, Gh0stMarket appeared as lines of computer code and broken English. On the site hackers and fraudsters traded anonymously in compromised databases containing thousands of personal details including account numbers, pins and passwords. The site contained manuals such as “14 ways of hacking credit cards” and “running cards on eBay” and information on staying anonymous. It sold hacking software and instructions on how to manufacture crystal meth and explosives.
Police estimate that the site cost credit card users as much as £16.2 million ($26.37 million).

Tonight on the show Tony Richards hosted the show along with the illustrious Mr. Frank Cotolo of Cotolo Chronicles as Joel was again on extended assignment. The usual hilarity that Frank brings to any show of course was present along with some very interesting and perhaps eye-opening revelations by the man himself when it comes to personal information on the web and what it can and cannot do in terms of harm. Tony tried playing devil's advocate for a bit and that just turned up the heat even more.
Some of the topics we covered on the show included a story about the new threat to personal privacy that facebook is about to foist on its members by allowing information such as your cell phone number, home address and a lot more potential information to third party app developers.
"Facebook will be moving forward with a controversial plan  to give third-party developers and external web sites the ability to access users' home addresses and cell phone numbers in the face of criticism from privacy experts, users, and even congressmen," the Wall Street Journal reports.
Is anybody surprised? Really? This is how Facebook rolls: Strip away a huge chunk of your privacy, cry "Our bad!" and roll it back when users and/or privacy advocates complain. Then wait awhile, and do whatever it is Facebook planned to do anyway. Stay tuned...it will just get deeper and deeper.
Frank, on the other hand, pretty much said, the heck with all the fears of privacy and security worries. According to his beliefs, the people that want to get the information will most likely either already have it or will find a way to get it no matter what steps you take to protect yourself anyway so.....why get upset over it?
Tony had a slightly different perspective. While he agreed mostly in part with Frank on the access to data by those who will stop at nothing to get it, Tony pointed out that in days gone by, you cou;dn't necessarily do it in your pajamas from your bedroom over the Internet. You had to GO someplace, whether it be the library or the courthouse or some other place of record keeping in order to get it and therefore while it may have been readily available, it wasn't quite as accessible.
Points to keep in mind when using Facebook:
  • ALWAYS read the fine print where it describes what information the app will ask for. MANY people do not do this and later claim "I didn't know it gave THAT out...."
  • Whenever Facebook makes major system wide modifications, they reset ALL user settings BACK to the DEFAULT settings so some of your custom settings WILL have changed
  • ALWAYS remember that when you request to be a "friend" of someone, two things happen:
  1. They become friends of yours all your friends can request friendship of them and
  2. YOU can become friends of THEIRS and can do likewise.
Next up on the show, we talked about the Stockholm suicidebomber from Sweden and a very interesting lead in the case that came to light. It turns out that a small metal canister found near the body of the victim and which has been unexplained until now looks remarkably similar to that of devices used by cannibus users.
According to the tipster, the small metal pipe found near the body of the bomber looks very much like a pollen press, a device used to compact dried resin extracted from cannabis plants. According to the marijuana enthusiast website bakedlife.com, a pollen press, also known as a kief press, is something "every stoner should get" as it helps turn powder from ground up marijuana plants into a "convenient and smokeable mini brick".
Today is March 1st and on this date, Iceland celebrates a rather unique holiday.
Prohibition in Iceland went into effect in 1915 and lasted, to some extent, until March 1, 1989 (since celebrated as "Beer Day"). The ban had originally prohibited all alcohol, but from 1935 onward only applied to "strong" beer (with an alcohol content of 2.25% or more)..
Following the end of prohibition, some Icelanders have celebrated Beer Day on March 1. Some people may take part in a "rĂșntur" with a few bars staying open until 4:00 a.m. the next day.The legalization of beer remains a significant cultural event in Iceland as beer has become the most popular alcoholic beverage.
Finally on the show, we talked about a new and exciting possible solution to the dreaded "Stink Bug" that has invaded our country and which came from abroad The major problem with the elimination of this pesky critter is the fact that while the bugs came here possibly in crates from lands importing produce or other goods into the USA, their natural born predators or elimination tools were left behind.

However, a team of researchers in a Delaware laboratory are thinking they have found the solution or at least a way to deal with the pesky bugs. It is a parasitic wasp from Asia. How does it work?
They are uncommonly efficient at hunting down and injecting their offspring into stink bug egg masses. In true horror-movie fashion, the larvae consume the stink bugs from the inside out. When the wasps grow into adults, they chew their way out, procreate — and go on the hunt for more stink bug eggs.
Let's hope it works before the supply of Odor eaters runs out!
