Show Notes - 05/31/2011

Jack from Wander Radio joined us on the show (for real this time) and we talked about the weather in our various geographical locations. Jack was knocked off the air and into hiding last week when he was scheduled to guest host so we discussed that a bit as well as the extreme heat we are experiencing here in the Mid-Atlantic region.

We also discussed various other topics such as Bill Koenig's book, Eye to Eye: Facing the Consequences of Dividing Israel. In the book, he discusses that 9 of the last 10 costliest insurance disasters in the U.S. happened approximately 24 hours after the U.S. requests that Israel make border land concessions. Well, it could be strangely true or it can be coincidence. Check out the link below and weigh in on our Facebook Page.

Tonight on the broadcast, we welcomed a legend of pop culture. The one and only, Charles Fox. Charles has composed over 100 theme songs for television and movies (many of which carried on to become pop songs continuously on radio). He is responsible for such great themes as "Happy Days", "Laverne & Shirley", "Love, American Style", "The Love Boat" and more. He is also the composer of "Killing Me Softly (with his words)" and Barry Manilow's hit, "Ready To Take A Chance". Charles spoke about his book, KILLING ME SOFTLY...MY LIFE IN MUSIC and some of the stories inside the cover. As her puts it, every song and person he worked with has it's own story behind it. Charles remains very active in music today, having just written a theme song for the city of Beverly Hills

POST-RAPTURE: We Made It!

Welcome to the show, tonight we spent the first hour with the staff of the world's first-ever kid-owner and operated FM radio station WKID-FM 96.7 in Clearwater, Florida. Six years into operation, these awesome kids run shows from giving advice to reporting the traffic around their area. We chatted with the station owner, Adam "A-Dawg", co-owner Bo Bo the Monkey, Connor and Yen Chow. After discussing the facts about the station, we spent some time talking about issues from their perspective including The Rapture and homework in school. You can visit their website below to see and hear their streams.

Later Sharen introduced a new segment called "Hollywood Grapevine" and she brought up the death of Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Justin Beiber's new line of nail polish (what's up with that?) and Russell Brand's deportation from japan for 10 year old charges. Plus we talked about some interesting Rapture conversation including a company who will charge you to take care of your pets after you have been taken by God.

Tonight on the show the amazing sounds of Still Spark reverberated through the studio as Seth and Dan of the band joined us on the air. We found out just what brought these two amazing guitar players together and featured the track, "Love Comes Calling" from their self-titled debut album. Check out their website below to get your copy of the CD.

Ms. Sharen joined us on the show after a hiatus and she brought up the story of Ashton Kutcher taking over on the show Two and a Half Men. Will the show be able to keep it's great ratings with Kutcher on the team? We seem to think they should be ok. Ashton has his own comedic following and he should be a viable cast replacement.

Later on the show, men of the Dundalk Power Squadron joined us for our annual Boating Safety Show to discuss the rules of the water and some tips on staying safe while you are cruisin' the waters. Also, they discussed the criteria for vessel safety checks and how to acquire them from the US Power Squadrons and the US Coast Guard as well as the differences between the two. We've listed websites below on how you can reach them or your local squadron plus a great website to get a virtual checkup so you can see what is included in the check.

On the show tonight we interviewed Erin Mullins from the Indie Alternative Rock band, Fools For Rowan. In the likings of Paramore, Heart and Pat Benetar, Fools For Rowan is carving out a niche of being the very next hot sensation. We featured their track, "Burnt Around the Edges" and found out more about how this collective of talent came together. Upcoming Show ALERT for DELAWARE residents:

  • Friday May 13, 2011 11:30 PM - Rusty Rudder, Dewey Beach, DE
  • Saturday May 14, 2011 11:30 PM - Rusty Rudder, Dewey Beach, DE

Check out their websites below for more information and to get their CD.

Remember when we talked about how Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachussetts was the model maker for ObamaCare? Well, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware was found in violation of state law because they hired an outside company, MedSolutions to review claims for nuclear studies. Well there was a guaranteed savings clause which basically meant that MedSolutions saved BCBSDE money by denying the claims, therefore putting patients at risk...of serious harm or death. What do you think about that? Should the Insurance Commission of Delaware fine and punish Blue Cross Blue Shield?

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!

Tonight on the show our musical guest was Tom Getter Slack. Tom has a nostalgic sound that as Joel puts it, sounds like The Moody Blues. We featured his song, "Future Dream" from the album LOOKING GLASS and what a fantastic sound he has. It was music to our ears. Tom began many years ago in the musical journey and you can continue on with him by visiting his links below for more information and to get the CD.

Other topics included the latest numbers on unemployment which looked somewhat crooked. There were 244,000 more jobs in April but the unemployment percentage rose back to 9%. We cracked the case and found out that the information is gathered from two entirely separate entities. Your tax dollars at work.

We discussed summer traveling and how things could be affected by the price of gas which has risen more than 91 cents per gallon since January 2011. However, analysts say that the cost of the oil, which has been driven up by unrest in the Middle East, may actually be down as much as 50 cents by June!

Will McVay, Delaware Libertarian Party Vice Chair, stopped by to talk about the plans for the upcoming election year. The Libertarian Party believes in the core values of less government and more freedoms. For more information, visit their Facebook pages below.

Osama bin Laden Killed by US Military

On the show, we covered various news stories and theories regarding the death of Osama bin Laden including the news and events leading up to and including the raid and of course to entertain the conspiracy theorists out there we mentioned some of the information that makes one wonder if he was not already dead years ago. Is Washington wagging the dog for alternative benefits? Who knows.

Also, Joel spoke about how the dandelions keep coming back and he had to mow his lawn twice. So Muttley offered up the edible facts about dandelions including salad and tea. NEVER drink tea at Muttley's place! Here is a recipe that Muttley donated for show:

Simple Sautéed Dandelion Greens

1 to 2 tbsp olive oil
1 to 2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 bunch dandelion greens, washed and dried, stems removed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Heat olive oil in a large skillet or wok on medium-high heat. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute or until it becomes translucent. Add the greens and sauté 2 to 3 minutes or until soft, stirring occasionally. If your greens are tough, you may want to cover the pan and steam them for a minute or 2 more. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Tonight on the show, we spoke first with Singer & Songwriter Jonah Knight. Jonah is a Modern Folk singer who writes and sings all about the paranormal; ghosts, goblins, aliens, pirates and more. We featured his track The Pirate Song which is one of his more comedic stories and has a great folksy sound to it. Check out his link below to learn more about him, his music, check out his tour dates and more.

Later on the program we spoke to Roland Thomas who authored the fascinating book, Awakening the Genius Within. The book chronicles the achievements of Doctor Michael Kiriac who was the lead researcher and director of the effort to develop nutritional solutions to alleviate diseases in livestock in the former Russia. Roland spent some valuable time with us discussing the research of how Bio-Algae can have positive results to the human body's health system. You can get a FREE copy of his book electronically by registering at his website below.

On the news desk, we discussed a Pennsylvania Amish farm that was busted by the FDA after a year long sting watching them sell un-pasteurized milk to Maryland consumers. It is currently illegal in 11 states plus the District of Columbia to sell the non-processed milk.

Gino's Burgers is making a comeback. They have one store in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and are soon franchising in the Baltimore, Maryland area. For details, visit their Facebook page below. Thanks to Diamond Joe for getting the Facebook link to us.
